What should you pay attention to in warehouse lighting design? What lamps are commonly used?

Don’t just light the space—light the work. In high-bay warehouses, what counts is seeing inside aisles and on rack faces, not a bright ceiling.

Design points:

  • Set light levels by zone. Storage areas can be dimmer; picking, packing, and shipping need more light for labels and accuracy. Roughly: picking/packing ≥200 lx, receiving/shipping ≥150 lx, storage ≥100 lx. Don’t forget vertical light on rack faces so upper-level labels are readable.

  • Match optics to aisles. A good distribution curve beats higher wattage. Keep light between racks, not wasted overhead. Test one aisle before doing the whole warehouse—www.lowcled.com lets you compare options.

  • Use occupancy sensors sensibly. Great for idle areas, bad for busy main aisles where constant switching annoys people and wears out fixtures. Keep high-traffic zones always on; sensor the rest.

  • Fire safety is non-negotiable. No halogen or >100W incandescent in storage rooms. Fixtures need covers and proper heat dissipation. Emergency lighting and exit signs per code.

  • Think maintenance early. High ceilings mean lift equipment and downtime. Check driver reliability, lifespan, and warranty—not just unit price.

Common lamps:

  • LED high-bay lights are the go-to. Instant on, no flicker, long life, sensor-friendly. UFO or linear styles work well in tall, densely racked warehouses. CRI ≥70 is fine for most warehouse work.

  • Linear LED fixtures suit low ceilings or areas needing even light bands.

  • Emergency fixtures cover exits and evacuation routes independently.

  • Fluorescent and metal halide are mostly legacy now—LED wins on energy, life, and control.

Tell me your ceiling height, rack height, and main task type, and I can suggest fixture types and rough wattage.

About this LED flood light

LOWCLED outdoor LED flood lights are built for building facades, billboards, gardens, car parks, sports courts and industrial yards. The 4A / 4S / FLU modular series covers 30W to 2000W with 100-120 degree beam angle, tempered glass lens and a die-cast aluminium heat sink that keeps the LED junction temperature low even in summer.

Every fixture passes a 24-hour aging test and an IP66 waterproof test before shipment. With 150 lm/W, 10KV surge protection and 5-7 years warranty options, they replace 250W-2000W metal halide lamps and cut power consumption by around 70%.
